Here’s a quick interview I did after a sports and social media panel at SES Chicago conference last week, touching on how the Boston Celtics use social media platforms to connect with fans around the world, and why collecting data is so important for brands on Facebook.
Marketing sports and music have the biggest impact since most people are more passionate for their favorite athletes, teams, and artists than regular consumer goods. To enhance and maintain a brand, consumer that are passionate for a team like the Celtics would want to celebrate that passion with music. This is why you can’t go wrong with an event with people using social media in that space to donate money celebrating the event sponsors. It would effectively reach outside the core fans and increase the databases of the sponsors involved to sell more products, and help the brand evolve.
